Beginners class: how to make a slip knot

Here's a brief guide to a crochet essential you will need.

About 6in (15cm) from the end of the yarn, make a loop with the ball end on the top. Insert the hook through the loop and catch the yarn, pulling it through the loop. Pull both ends of the yarn to tighten the knot and slide it up the hook.
