Granny Square Day 2019 is fast approaching, but we’re just far too excited to wait until the 15th August! So from the 1st to the 15th, we’ll be posting a free granny square pattern for you to crochet in the lead up to the big day!
Our first square obviously has to be the classic basic granny square! This Square uses simple chain, double crochet and treble crochet stitches – so it’s the perfect square for it you’re just starting out. At the start of this pattern we give you the option of using a magic loop to start your square. Magic loops can be slightly tricky but make a neater result, so if you fancy giving it a try you can find our tutorial here!
If you need any more help with this pattern, check out all of our tutorials here!
Whether you’re new to crochet, or just need a refresher – we’ve also created this handy walk-through video to help you with the tricky bits! You may want to pause the video if you’re working along to it (as we fast-forward through the repeats).
P.S. Blocking makes a big difference to the final shape of your squares. Because of this we’ve left our squares unblocked in each picture so you’ll have a better idea of what yours will look like before blocking. With the print edition of Issue 87 of Simply Crochet you also get our awesome foam blocking board that is perfect for these squares. If you’re new to blocking, you can find our Blocking Tutorial Video here!
