This issue’s hook to hook challenge is all about celebrating the summer, with two fab designs by Susan Yeates and Jennifer May.
Susan told us, “I wanted to create something fun and friendly for summer using this yummy cotton 4ply. I really love working with cotton and these colours just looked so sugary and sweet that the idea of ice lollies popped into my head. These little cuties are created in the amigurumi style – the stitches go round and round as the pattern builds up. Simple to create and super-sweet, I hope my crochet ice lollies look good enough to eat!” Find Susan online at www.isaycrochet.com
When it’s hot outside, Jennifer likes to chill out in the shade, ideally with a crochet project and a clinking drink. “When I was challenged to make something ‘summery’, an image of a beach hut came to mind,” Jennifer told us, “I wanted to capture the character of painted wooden planks, as well as roof tiles – the yarn shades were perfect for the job, and I incorporated lots of one-loop hooking in the design. To get at edges and sharp corners I lined it with a card ‘skeleton’, but it could be stuffed instead for a puffier version.”
You can vote for your favourite of these two designs on our Simply Crochet Instagram page. To vote, simply double tap and comment on the one you prefer, and one lucky reader will win all the Wendy Supreme Luxury Cotton yarn that you need to make the project.
