In Simply Crochet issue 73 you’ll find our new Hook to Hook designer challenge, and this issue it features designs by Becky Skuse and Helen McLean.
“I wanted to design a simple, strong and stylish bag for popping to the shops or market and carrying bits and pieces in,” Helen told us, “The simplicity and strength come from being made in one piece, and the soothing pattern repeat means it’s relaxing to hook. The King Cole yarn was a dream to work with and I just love the fact that as well as using a recycled yarn, the end result also gives an environmentally-friendly and reusable bag for life. That’s a win-win in my eyes!” Helen’s blog is at www.sewsewbaby.co.uk
Becky has been vegan for 10 years, so her love of fruit and veg inspired this design. “Most of my food shopping revolves around buying fresh food, but this creates a shocking amount of plastic waste. So, I wanted to make a bag that could hold loose items free from plastic. My design was inspired by two of my favourite fruits: the juicy sharpness of lime, and the refreshing taste of cucumber. The surface crochet wording is a loud and proud declaration of my love for rabbit food!” Find more of Becky’s designs at www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MakeMeDo
