To mark a new collaborative phase in its Blogstars programme, Stylecraft has announced the launch of a vibrant new colourway, by Lucia Dunn, of an existing crochet design by Jane Crowfoot. It rejoices in the name of Eastern Jewels, and packs of the special DK yarn will soon be in yarn shops everywhere.
Jane’s original design, Persian Tiles, has proved highly popular around the world. “As the designer,” she says, “it is incredibly interesting and exciting for me to see other people’s versions and colourways. I have seen some really beautiful interpretations of the project – some of which use many shades and yarn combinations, and others that use a restricted palette.”
Lucia Dunn is known for her joyous use of colour on her blog, Lucia’s Fig Tree. When she approached Jane and Stylecraft with an alternative colour palette, everyone was intrigued to see what might result.
The inspiration for Lucia’s palette came from summer – specifically the summer in her home country of Italy. Lucia used different colours for each motif, inspired by the multi-coloured houses in Italy’s coastal villages.
“The pattern Jane designed is amazing,” Lucia says, “and just inspired me to come up with new colours. I hope that my palette will give anyone, in whatever part of the world, the feeling of happiness holidays, general wellness, sun and sea.”
Jane is enthusiastic about the bohemian feel of this new interpretation, and hopes it will inspire others to experiment with their own colour combinations. “It is fabulous to see Lucia’s rich and vibrant version of the Persian Tiles,” she says. “Her use of colour and contrasts gives the blanket a new perspective and highlights the stitch combinations and techniques used within this project.”
Her final verdict: “I love it!”
The Eastern Jewels yarn packs, with the option to buy the pattern for crocheters that don’t already have it, is available from 25th September 2017. For more information, head over to the official Stylecraft website.
