Crochet designer challenge: vote for your favourite crochet pattern in our new Hook to Hook competition

In Simply Crochet issue 62 you’ll find our new Hook to Hook designer challenge, and this issue it features designs by Sylvia Margaret and Miki Hemphill. They were both given four shades of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yarn and challenged to design us some Halloween accessories.

Sylvia told us, “Elaborate collars are my crochet trademark. I wanted to keep it classy and with the time invested in making, I wanted it to be something that could be worn more than once. So, thinking ‘Halloween party’, I thought ‘what would Morticia Addams wear?’ This led to me create a Victorian Gothic-style high neck piece. At first glance it just looks like a fancy collar, but look again and you can see the skulls – a real talking piece that would transform any little black dress.” See more of Sylvia’s makes at and find her on Instagram as @sylviamargaretdesigns.

Miki is a self-confessed crochet addict, yarn hoarder and crazy cat lady. She loves bright colours and modern boho vibes, sharing her makes and patterns on her Set Free My Gypsy Soul blog at She says: “For this project, I wanted to create something that was fun to make and fun to wear. I love that Halloween fancy dress spans across all the genres, from gory and scary to cute and pretty, with a bit of everything in between. This fun tiara headdress combines a little of all of that!” You can find Miki on Instagram as @sfmgs.

You can vote for your favourite of these two designs on our Simply Crochet Instagram page – double tap on the one you prefer. And one lucky reader will win all the Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yarn that you need to make the project.

The competition closes on Wednesday 27th September 2017 at 1pm, and for full terms and conditions click here.
