Carol Meldrum is an experienced textile designer and workshop tutor, and is the author of many popular knitting and crochet titles. Throughout the week the focus will be on creating blocks and squares in a selection of techniques, so you can knit, crochet, or mix and match to your heart’s content. This project is perfect for brushing up your skills or trying something new and discovering how similar effects can be created in both knit and crochet.
Enjoy your favourite pastime amid these beautiful surroundings and get to know this Portuguese gem on the included sightseeing programme. Traditional embroidery of Madeira dates back to colonisation in the 15th century but this craft really became established in the mid-19th century. You’ll explore the history and culture of embroidery on the island with visits to an embroidery factory and the Handicraft and Embroidery Museum. Inspired by the beauty of the island both you and your knitting and crochet skills are sure to leave Madeira refreshed and rejuvenated.
This special holiday also includes a tour of the island capital, Funchal. You’ll explore the vibrant and colourful local market and visit the village of Monte, starting point of the famous toboggan run. An included panoramic tour taking in both the east and west of Madeira will also ensure you discover all the scenic highlights and an evening of folklore and typical Madeiran cuisine will give you a taste of some of the traditions that are unique to the island too.
