NOTES

The Poinsettia is made up of four different layers. The bottom layer is the leaf base, with five leaves worked around a central circle. There are then three different petal layers; the first has four large petals, the second has six medium petals and the top layer has four petals, in two different sizes. Together these individual layers build up to give the Poinsettia its distinctive look of different sized petals, with no particular symmetry. The top flower layer is finished off with gold loops in the centre. Each leaf and petal is worked with a central spine down the centre.

To vary the look of the Poinsettia, the top petal layer can also be worked with the petal spines being worked in gold to give a variegated effect.

To complete the top layer, using the 179 (Gold) yarn work a series of small loops or French Knots in the centre of the flower.

Putting your Poinsettia together

You may wish to block your flower parts before stitching them together. To do this spray each part with Spray Starch and pin onto a board to air dry.

Once completely dry, beginning with the leaf layer on the bottom, build up the layers of the Poinsettia, laying the petals in the arrangement you wish them to be.

Using a needle and thread stitch the 4 layers in place by stitching from the centre top of the flower to the centre of the bottom layer.
