At the end of February, team Simply Crochet hit the road and headed to Birmingham’s NEC for the annual Craft Hobby + Stitches International show. It’s a trade show – and the press get a sneaky peek at all the new products, too! We caught up with some of our yarny favourites and found out what’s going to be hot in handmade for 2016. We also spotted scrummy new yarns, visited Yarnia and found lots of exciting crochet – here are our hooky highlights.
Yarnia was an exciting display by the new distributors of Spinrite Yarns in the UK, Creative World of Crafts, inspired by The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. It featured fantastical knitted and crocheted makes including the White Queen, Mr Tumnus, wartime fashion and even the wardrobe itself.
We saw adorable crocheted cars and a brand new cotton yarn at the DMC stand. We can’t wait to get stitching with Natura Medium!
How beautiful is this blanket? We spied this at the Fyberspates stand. It’s the Vintage Hexie Blanket by Heike Gittins, hooked using scrummy Socks Yeah! yarn by Coop Knits.
Check out this cute amigurumi owl kit from Hawthorn Handmade. They have a bunch of new crochet and needle felting kits for spring, all equally delightful.
And after all that excitement, we were glad to pay a visit to Hoooked‘s pastel lounge. Get a load of those tasty ice cream hues!
Keep an eye out in upcoming issues of Simply Crochet for more about the crochet treasures and treats we found at Stitches 2016.
