KPC Yarn – merino and organic cotton – sponsored post

KPC Yarn is part of a Hong Kong-based family-owned company that has been supplying yarn to the garment industry for over 70 years. In 2012, KPC decided to bring the same extraordinary quality of yarn that fashion companies such as Brooks Brothers and Acne Studio have access to, to crafters everywhere.

KPC crochet blankets The first collection of KPC yarns offered three natural qualities: Novomerino, using the finest, smoothest merino fibres from Gostwyck in New South Wales; Cashmere, using the purest, softest cashmere from the Mongolian steppes; and Glencoul, a blend of 70% merino, 30% cotton. This year KPC added Gossyp, a 100% organic cotton from China, which has been an immediate best seller. All the yarns come in a variety of weights, and most excitingly, in over one hundred beautiful colours.

KPC worked with several local knit clubs in Hong Kong to develop the yarns, gathering valuable feedback about the feel of each yarn quality and the way it behaved. The knitters also had a hand in selecting the final colour ranges, putting together dream palettes from a choice of over one hundred and fifty stock colours.

KPC’s unusual packaging came about as a way to stop the incredibly smooth Novomerino yarn falling apart when it wasn’t being used. Instead of a paper label, KPC uses a ribbon, which can be retied when the yarn ball isn’t needed, therefore keeping your stash under control. The label contains all the yarn details, and it has a hole to thread a sample through – a very handy way to keep track of your colours.

KPC yarn packagingThe thoughtful packaging doesn’t end with the yarn balls. Everything at KPC has been designed with a stylish eye, and every delivery comes beautifully boxed and wrapped. The seasonal colourways make the perfect gift even for someone who already has cupboards full of wool – and let’s face it, we all know someone like that!

KPC is committed to the highest industry standards; it has worked with the same sheep farms for many decades, and is confident that the sheep and goats – and their environment – are properly cared for. KPC spins and dyes all its fleece and oversees the production of each ball of yarn.

KPC Novomerino is spun from pure merino from Gostwyck in New South Wales, Australia, where they have been producing wool since 1834. Novomerino is incredibly smooth and luxurious on account of the length and fineness of the fibres. It is the first time anyone has used this quality of fibre for a handknit yarn. Novomerino is a pleasure to work with, and to wear.

KPC Glencoul wool cotton is a blend of 70% merino and 30% cotton. It has the feel and subtle sheen of a cotton yarn with the stretch and durability of wool. It is machine washable, so is practical as well as beautiful.

KPC Gossyp is spun from100% organic cotton from certified organic cotton farms in China. The dyes and the dying process used by KPC meet strict eco guidelines yp ensure the finished yarns are as environmentally friendly as possible.

This care can be felt in the quality and lustre of Gossyp yarn.

KPC pure Cashmere originates in the mountainous plateaus of Mongolia, where tribesmen still herd their goats. Cashmere is spun from the soft downy undercoat of these cashmere goats to create a beautifully soft and versatile yarn.
