Five top tips for your crochet Christmas!

Summer may only just be fading outside, but now is the perfect time to start planning for your Christmas crochet projects. After all, you don’t want to still be frantically hooking when you should be celebrating. We’ve chatted to some expert crocheters to find out their top tips for making that to-do list achievable, stress-free and even a part of the festive fun that you’ll relish. Here’s a sneak peak at five of their top tips:

1   Keep things simple. Designer Salena Baca recommends sticking to things like cowls, hats, gloves and wine totes and says that they’re “small and simple enough that you can quickly make a pile of them in very little time.”

2   It’s all about the game plan. “Make a plan and stick to it, and remember to make a couple of extra, gender neutral presents so if you forget someone, you have a nice present ready for them as well,” says interior designer Ilaria Chiaratti.

3   Prepare, prepare, prepare. Elisabeth Davis de Herraiz says to “buy all the yarn you need so you don’t risk it being out of stock in your local yarn store or getting caught up in the Christmas post if you buy online.”

4   Don’t procrastinate! Elisabeth also says it’s best to start your projects early and keeping doing a little bit every day.

5   Leave yourself time to finish. Don’t forget to allow at least a couple of days for finishing off, suggests artist Steph Phillips, and be kind to yourself – your expectations are often your own.
