Festival headband in issue 19

We appreciate that several of our readers have brought the issue of our ‘Festival headband’ to our attention. We did not intend to cause offence or be disrespectful and sincerely apologise for any offence caused.

We were inspired by the colours used in artefacts, arts and crafts produced by both ancient and contemporary Native American cultures. However, we acknowledge that we should have researched the background to using Native American naming designations and the imagery of the headdress further, as we would then have understood that it was inappropriate to use these in our photographic story.

We apologise for the error and have taken steps to remove the photography and change the wording used in our digital editions.
