Materials

Yarn: 1 x Patons 4ply 100% cotton (approx 330m per 100g ball)

A – raffia, B – cream

1 x small 2 hole shell button for each necklace

glass headed pins

sewing up needle

Tension: approx 4 repeats per 10cm

Finished length: approx 39cm

Abbreviations

ch – chain, dc – double crochet, htr – half treble,tr – treble, sl st– slip stitch

Shell Trim Necklace

To make either of the designs slightly longer simply add a multiple of 6 to the chain at the beginning of the

pattern, each 6ch will give you approx an extra 2.5cm.

Using 2mm hook & yarn A , make 98ch

Row1: 1ch, 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end, turn. (98sts)

Row2: 2ch, 1tr into 1st dc, *1ch, miss 1dc, 1tr into next st, rep from * until 1st left, 1tr into last st, turn

Row3: 1ch, sl st into each of the 1st 2tr,* miss next 1ch sp and tr, 7tr into next 1ch sp, miss next tr, 1dc into next 1ch sp, 3ch, miss next tr, 1dc into next 1ch sp, miss next tr, rep from * 14 times, miss next tr, 7tr into next 1ch sp, miss next tr, 1dc into last 1ch sp, sl st into last tr and top of turning ch.

Do not turn, work 8ch for button loop, break off yarn leaving long length to sew chain to necklace for the button loop.

Using 2mm hook & yarn B, work the first 2 rows as given for Shell trim necklace 

Row3: 1ch, 1dc into each of the 1st 2tr,1dc into 1ch sp, * 5ch, miss the next (tr, 1ch sp, tr), 1dc into next 1ch sp, 3ch, miss next tr, 1dc into next 1ch sp, repeat from * 14 times, 5ch, miss the next (tr, 1ch sp, tr), 1dc into last 1ch sp, sl st into last tr and into top of turning ch, turn

Row 4: 1ch, *(2dc, 2htr, 3tr, 2htr, 2dc) into 5ch arch, 3ch, miss next dc, 1tr into 3ch arch, 3ch, miss next dc, rep from * 14 times, (2dc, 2htr, 3tr, 2htr, 2dc) into 5ch arch, sl st into last dc.

Do not turn, work 8ch for button loop, break off yarn leaving long length to sew chain to necklace for the button loop.

Making up for both designs

Sew the loop to the top edge of the necklace to form loop, then sew in all loose ends.

Finishing off for both designs

Block and press necklace by pinning out on an ironing board using glass head pins, ensuring

that all the shells and arches are pinned out , spray with cold water and gently press with a
